BSNL in collaboration with MobiKwik launches Mobile wallet for its 100 million subscribers. BSNL claims that it is the biggest E-wallet by any telecommunication company in India. Here are the details.
A Sheer Desperation to Compete with Private Telecom Companies
In our previous article on BSNL, we highlighted how desperately BSNL is fighting hard to be in the market. On Thursday, Telecom Minister and BJP MP from Ghazipur Shri Manoj Sinha launched E-wallet service for 100 Million BSNL users in collaboration with digital mobile wallet company MobiKwik. The wallet has been launched to provide ease in payment of bills, surfing through new plans and offers while going digital.
Nearly all other top telecom companies already have their own digital wallet or app that supports mobile payment. This is the major reason why BSNL had to launch its own digital wallet. The subscribers will be able to use digital mobile wallets at over 1.5 million merchants all over India. BSNL claimed that this is the biggest wallet in India with 1.5 million merchants.

To compete with the Market and giving a Boost to Digital India
Union Minister Shri Manoj Sinha said that this step will help in the inclusion of people from the rural sector of India. It will also help in boosting the initiative of Digital India while ensuring payment and purchase through the wallet. Chairman of BSNL, Anupam Shrivastava said that it is our aim to ensure that 100 million users of BSNL are able to use this co-brand app and do digital transactions, purchase and payments through the e-wallet.
On the contrary side, it doesn’t looks that this step will anywhere help BSNL as there are already many apps through which a customer can do payments and recharge. BSNL is still suffering due to bad networks, connectivity, slow data speed and call drops. If these problems are solved only then we can imagine BSNL’s resurrection.
