Taiwanese contract company Foxconn will invest Rs 6000 crores in India that will generate 40, 000 jobs. The project will start in 200 acre SEZ near Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust in Maharashtra. Additionally, the IT ministry recently claimed that 35,000 BPO jobs were created in the small towns. All this points to more job creation in India?
Foxconn Investment In India – Another Step towards Make in India and Jobs Creation
Foxconn 6000 crore investment plan in the special economic zone near the JNPT in Maharashtra will be another step towards the make in India project. The world’s largest contract manufacturing company for electronics is about to set up a 200 acre plant for manufacturing electronics.
Foxconn, that manufactures electronic components for iPhone has sent a proposal to the GOI as confirmed by Nitin Gadkari. Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis said that this deal would have been closed quite earlier but got dragged due to the Doklam issue.
The plant that would be setup by the company will lead to job creation in India. Around 40, 000 direct jobs will be provided claimed the company. The 277 acre Special Economic Zone has a 77 acre support infrastructure like the transport system while the 200 acre land will be on bid. Around 20-30 companies have already sent their proposal to setup their plants which will create around 2 lakh jobs.
The SEZ as a whole will see an investment of Rs 60, 000 crores. This is another step towards record investment in India. The company hasn’t clarified whether it will manufacture components for domestic use or for export given its setup on JNPT.
More Jobs in Process: BPO to Provide 35, 000 jobs in India
The IT Ministry led by Ravi Shankar Prasad has claimed that 35, 000 BPO jobs have been created in the small towns. The ambitious project that was launched in 2015 is aimed to provide 48, 000 jobs in the smaller towns of India. IT Minister Prasad said that they will reach this target in the upcoming six months.
The project is aimed to provide jobs all over the country including the North East and Jammu and Kashmir. 5000 seats have been fixed for North East BPO that has an investment of Rs 50 crore while 493 crores have been outlaid for the rest of India under India BPO Promotion Scheme.
After four rounds of open bidding, 18, 160 seats have been fixed from 109 units of 87 companies that are spread in 60 locations of 19 states. The Modi Government has received heavy criticism for provide very less jobs. This step will certainly help the government in providing jobs to the commoners thus fulfilling their aspirations.
