India’s premiere telecom service provider Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL ) is leaving no stone unturned in order to ensure its survival. Many government owned businesses have seen the wrath of harsh competition already.
Fighting Hard to be in the Competition
The present telecom sector is all about data and speed. The one that provides high speed, is reasonable in price and gives abundant data, people will go for it. This formula was proved to be successful by Reliance Jio. Jio witnessed record subscription as it offered free SIM card and free voice+ data service for around 6 months. The same steps are being taken by BSNL in order to ensure its place in the competitive market. It is also a fact that people don’t use BSNL much for internet services rather they use it for calling purpose only.
BSNL recently launched attractive plans to attract customers. Lucrative offers like triple ace that will offer 3GB internet data per day for 90 days @333 rupees and Nehle Pe Dehla scheme that will offer 2GB data and 3000+1800 BSNL-BSNL calling and BSNL to any network calling @395 rupees only. All these schemes shows that BSNL is desperate to compete with other telecom operators and especially Reliance Jio.
Improving Service and Internet Speed
BSNL has already invested 7000 crore in revamping infrastructure. It will install 21, 000 new towers to maximize connectivity and internet speed that was known to be very poor. BSNL has seen bad service in North East with higher Call Drops that is why it has emphasized more on North East. It is a fact that BSNL has performed poorly on internet connectivity side as most people refrain from using it’s data services.
From Free Connections to Free Services BSNL is Desperate not to be another Air India
BSNL launched a scheme on August 10, 2017 to provide free installations. Also, BSNL is offering cashback of 1500 on WIFI modems if taken a connection of 675 and above. It has also increased the number of free calls on different schemes. These steps clearly show that BSNL is in no mood to be another Air India. BSNL incurred a loss of 8000 rupees in 2014 but managed to earn an operating profit of 672 crores in 2015-16. This shows that it is reviving itself hard.
