Modi-fied Indian Railways With Suresh Prabhu's Leadership

In his famous Lok Sabha Railway Budget presentation, Suresh Prabhu said that the situation of railways is so deterrent that only “Prabhu” can save it. After three years of him as Indian Railways Minister, let us look at his achievements.

A Deserving Change

Railways were the sector where people hardly had any trust. There was no guarantee when the train will come and when it will go. There was no guarantee over the security of the passenger. Stations in Bihar were the epitome of crime against passengers. Last three years have been the years which have brought back the trust of the people in the railways that yes system can be changed and it is changing.

Proactive Team Helping the People

From providing milk to baby to changing his dippers, one tweet of passengers have seem to be creating magic. The twitter team of railways has been all inspiring where all your problems are heard. Passengers are immensely satisfied as their voices are being heard at the top and that is a positive signal for the Government.

Working with Vivid Vision

This government introduced the most ambitious project in the Railways history, the Bullet Train. The first bullet train can be expected by 2023 according to Prabhu who is determined to introduce fast running trains including Talgo whose experimental has took place many a times back. The government has removed bottlenecks by inviting FDI in railways. The Railways is working on an ambitious 8.5 lakh crore project for the next 5 years.

Ground Changes that have been done

  • 2855 KM of gauge conversion, doubling of lines and new lines commissioned by the railways.
  • Highest of 953 km of new lines built
  • Meter gauge converted to broad gauge of the entire north east
  • A total of 1503 unmanned crossings have been eliminated
  • A total of 1306 road over bridges and subways completed
  • Electrification of 2013 km of lines done
  • Commissioning of 48 lifts and 61 escalators done
  • WIFI installed at 100+ stations all over the India
  • 586 new coaches have been installed in the regular trains increasing passenger capacity by 43,420 berths.

New Changes to the Indian Railways

Railways introduced Hamsafar which is a fully air conditioned train at an affordable price. Antyodya, which a non reserved long distance service with improved coaches. In the next ten years Railways want to save 41, 000 crore rupees through energy efficiency by introducing LED lights and energy efficient products. The railways has also been planting 5 crore trees to ensure eco friendly railways. It has also pledged to make railways 100% free from human waste discharge.

The railway is pushing towards solar energy that will install in the stations to save energy. In the last 30-40 years, the railways have seen immense traffic but have seen very less expansion. Railways have been planning to expand the rail lines along with trains and building infrastructure requires proportionate time.

Apart from all this, Indian Railways is keen to improve the facility and safety of its passenger. Under the swacch bharat mission, Indian railways have seen immense cleanliness at the stations as well as in the trains. The railways have the mission to bring the best to the people in a very cost effective way with the support of the people.
