Unique Identification Authority of India has introduced new facility to ensure that biometric details of Aadhaar card holders doesn’t gets leaked or misused. Here are the details about the scheme.
Why to Secure your Aadhaar Details?
Your Aadhaar card holds many important details of your like biometric details and demographic details. It may get misused by others if you don’t care to protect it. There have been many reports published in recent times that indicates that data of many Aadhaar holders have leaked. Biometric details like scan of iris, finger prints and photo of the person holds the identity of the person and this can be used for wrongful doings. Various public interest litigation have been filed in several courts regarding concerns over privacy of Aadhaar data while linking it to various other identification documents.
How to Lock the Aadhaar Card Details
You can lock your Aadhaar details by logging in to UIDAI website where you need to fill your Aadhaar number followed by captcha. After a short while, you will receive an OTP on your mobile number which is registered with your Aadhaar card. You need to enter the OTP and submit it and then your Aadhaar details will be locked. You can similarly use the same method to unlock your biometric details. This process will remain active for ten minutes and after that your biometric detail will automatically get locked.
UIDAI has also asked the Aadhaar card holders to update their biometric details every ten years to ensure that it matches. In some cases like old age, diseases and eye problems, biometric details tend to change that is why it must be updated with time. One can also update it in case the holder meets up with serious accident where facial plastic surgery takes place or the palm or fingers are damaged.
After an eye operation also one should update his/her biometric detail as it may also change in some cases. An Aadhaar card hold two type of your details. One is your biometric detail and the other is your demographic detail. Biometric detail contains your iris scan, finger prints and photograph while your demographic detail contains your mobile number, residential address, Name, Father’s Name and Aadhaar number.
