To cash in opportunities arising from deep-rooted inflation, Reliance Jio has announced to launch its mobile phone for free with a string attached to it. But that’s not all that summarizes its recent action. The company further plans to offer free Wi-Fi service to the government colleges. Yes! After capturing the heart of a common man, now it seems the next on Ambani’s radar is the government colleges.
Let’s get you in detail:-
The company has cited the proposal to the HRD ministry that it wants to deploy free Wi-Fi services in 38,000 government aided colleges. Through this, the students will be able to access internet connection for educational and research purpose. But a nod of approval has still not been provided by the HRD ministry. This is the first time the HRD ministry has received such a proposal from the giant telecom player.
How will it benefit students?
This news has gladdened the students because having a Wi-Fi enabled campus is a must. Throughout the year the universities give enough of projects and case studies, for which the students need good internet access. This move will actually bolster their research efforts and end up woes of spending extra money to get the internet. Students will definitely reap the benefits.
List of the colleges that will get benefited
The list of the colleges for which Reliance is proposing to give free Wi-Fi includes Delhi University, Aligarh University, central University, Jamia Millia University, Banaras Hindu University, Himachal Pradesh and South Bihar.
Existing Reliance Jio Wifi Schemes
Here’s a snapshot of the Universities that are already benefiting with this scheme
In May, a MoU has been already been signed between Jio and Punjab government to provide Wi-Fi on the campus of government aided polytechnics, ITI and engineering colleges. Similarly, in the last year December, Mumbai University has signed a MoU with Jio to offer free Wi- Fi services to research centers and affiliated colleges.
With this, we can conclude that the latest onslaught by Jio could be disruptive for other telecom players because once again it is going to introduce new subscribers to its existing base. This aggressive posturing will definitely up the ante of Reliance.
