As is clear from the name itself, this article deals with Sundar Pichai’s visit. Sundar Pichai is the CEO of the technology giant company, Google. He came to visit his alma mater, i.e. IIT Kharagpur, after 23 years. Let me tell you that it Sundar Pichai has completed his bachelor’s degree from IIT Kharagpur itself. A “Back On Campus” named was organized in order to welcome Sundar Pichai. He mixed with each and every student present over there and also answered to their respective questions. Sundar Pichai At IIT Kharagpur:
Apart from some flecks of white hairs, Sundar Pichai stills gives an impression of a boy. Not just with his facial expressions, but also with his behavior. He spoke all about his life as well as experiences spent at the campus. He also told that he bunked several of the classes, which he called it as ‘right of passage’. Being from Chennai, he had little knowledge about Hindi, which also once resulted in the temporary closure of mess. This happened as he thought that saying ‘Abe Saala’ is a common greeting style. He even told about his wife, Anjali, who he met at the campus itself.

Several Announcements Made By Sundar Pichai:
He believes that India is projected to emerge as one of the world’s leading economies. In his session at IIT Kharagpur campus, he proposed several initiatives that would help India go Digital. Some of the initiatives proposed by him are as follows:
- He announced about the launch of new tools, training and support systems for the SMBs.
- Sundar Pichai told that Google will bring scale, speed as well as agility to Indian Businesses.
- Google will launch a new leverage tool, known as “My Business Website”. This will help provide an easy way for the business. This tool will help create simple and professional website and that too, for free. Using this tool, the website can be created in less than 10 minutes.
- Google also launched a certification course for the SMBs. This is launched in collaboration with the ISB. In partnership with the FICCI, the company will conduct 5000 workshops in around 40 cities of India. All these workshops will be created within the next three years.
- Google also launched a free mobile app, known as “Primer”. This app will teach digital marketing skills, which can work in online as well as offline mode. It is also interesting to note that Primer can be viewed in English as well as Hindi.

Sundar Pichai’s Expectations From India:
If India continues to take greater digital uptake by SMBs, then this could lead to increase in GDP as well. The Digital transaction has increased mainly after the Demonetization scheme launched by Narendra Modi. According to a KPMG report, the GDP can increase to around 10 percentage points that could take it up to 46 to 48 % by the year 2020. Sundar Pichai stressed over the point that he do not want to miss that digital revolution that is taking place in India. He believes that India would be a 1 trillion dollar digital economy by the next 3-4 years. He also believes that India would be one of the biggest software hubs in the coming five years. Let’s just hope that India becomes one of the world’s greatest Global players in terms of digital economy.
