Unless the date gets extended, today is the last day to link your Aadhaar with PAN. Government is determined to run a cleanliness drive to remove all the duplicate and false PAN cards from the system in order to curb revenue leakages.
Statistics as per Income Tax Website
The effect of the drive is visible with the stats revealed on the income tax e-filling portal. Total Number of Registered Users on the income tax e-filling portal who have linked their Aadhaar sums up to 338.99 lakhs out of the total 631.31 lakh registered users on the website. Also, 179.42 PAN cards which are not registered with the e-filling portal have also been linked with the respective Aadhaar Cards.
Similar to demonetization, looks like here also citizens are responsibly participating in the government’s operation against black money. Such steps are also forcing people to learn financial discipline which is much needed for a country to develop with a rapid pace.
What if you do not Link your Aadhaar with PAN?
You might not want to face trouble by doing this. If you do not link your Aadhaar, your PAN might get blocked, you will not be able to file your tax returns and even if you have filed already the same will not be processed by the department considering defective.
So hurry up if you haven’t linked it yet. Be a responsible citizen and fulfill the requirements within given time.
